Daniel Hill

Daniel Hill 

Senior Consultant

As a Senior Consultant at EBS, Mr. Hill is responsible for servicing EBS’ clients by strategizing, analyzing, coordinating, and implementing employee benefit programs. Mr. Hill partners with clients to assist in the areas of employee communication, compliance, wellness, and cost containment.

Prior to joining EBS, Mr. Hill was employed with Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. During his eight-year tenure, he held various positions in Customer Service, Operations, and Sales. In his most recent position in Sales as an Account Executive, he worked with clients with between 20 to 800 employees. In this role, Mr. Hill was responsible for managing renewals, introducing new products, developing custom plan designs, and providing claims reporting and analysis.

Mr. Hill holds a bachelor's degree in Communications from the Massachusetts College of Communications. He is a licensed accident and health producer. He is currently pursuing a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation. Mr. Hill is actively involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mass Bay.


Jason Reynolds

Jason Reynolds, as Senior Consultant, provides high-quality benefits consulting advice to our clients- specifically in the day-to-day operations of their employee benefit programs. Jason has a strong technical background, which has proven to be an incredible asset to clients who may be struggling to manage and budget for annual health and welfare cost increases. Mr. Reynolds works closely with our clients regarding the financials of their programs, and provides regular status updates on the funding adequacy of their plans. Aside from this, Jason’s responsibilities include annually marketing the employee benefit programs and providing our clients with a detailed analysis, effectively managing the benefits programs on their behalf.

Having come to EBS from International consulting firms and a New-England based Third Party Administration firm specializing in partially self-funded plans, Jason’s brokerage and consulting knowledge has been developing for over twenty years. Prior to joining EBS in 2009, Jason spent five years working with the mid to large-size group market at Paradigm Associates in Braintree, MA, which has since been absorbed by a national consulting firm.

Jason is a graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia, PA with master’s in both Health Administration and Healthcare Financial Management. Jason is a licensed life, accident, and health broker. In 2002, he obtained the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation.


Linda DeJordy

As a Benefits Consultant at EBS, Linda is responsible for managing clients’ day to day employee benefits programs including, but not limited to: the renewal and marketing process, the implementation of new benefit programs, and educational employee communications. Additionally, Linda supports the Human Resources team for her clients with billing issues, benefit fairs and open enrollment. Linda works closely with her clients, keeping them up to date on employee benefit related legislation and regulations, tracking and analyzing their claims, and benchmarking data. She also ensures her clients have resources within EBS to help them through: compliance questions, ACA reporting, COBRA administration, HRIS Technology inquires, and Wellness Strategies.

Linda’s employee benefits consulting knowledge was gained through sixteen years of industry experience. She worked as a Manager of Employees Benefits Program for Kaeding, Ernst & Company, where she worked with employers in the mid to small-group market. Alternatively, she most recently spent five years at Marsh & McLennan Agency, located in Boston, MA, working primarily with employers in large-size group market. Prior to entering the employee benefits industry, Linda worked in Human Resources as a Human Resources Manager and Benefits Specialist for a large non-profit healthcare system, located in Western Massachusetts.

Linda is licensed as a Massachusetts Life & Accident Health Producer.


Suzanne Adams

As Vice President at EBS, Suzanne brings a wealth of industry experience and a diverse perspective with over 25 years in the employee benefits industry.

Suzanne began her career working for national medical and ancillary carriers, then spent time as a broker advisor in an independent agency. Ms. Adams was most recently Vice President and Senior Consultant at Marsh & McLennan Agency.

Suzanne’s proficiency in the areas of health & welfare and ancillary plans is extensive. Her strengths include: value based plan design, evaluating/implementing alternative funding arrangements, strategic planning and forecasting, captive arrangements, and private exchanges. In addition, she has extensive employee benefit management experience. This includes ACA, State, and Federal compliance.

Suzanne holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University. She is a Licensed Insurance Advisor (LIA), and holds a Life and Health Insurance License from the state of Massachusetts. She resides in Hudson, MA with her two dogs, and actively competes her horse in eventing and dressage throughout the northeast.


Christopher Mace

As a Benefits Consultant at EBS, Mr. Mace advises clients on all aspects of health and welfare plans. This includes managing the renewal and marketing process and assisting in the organization and execution process for new benefit programs. He helps design, educate, advise, and implement benefit plans within large, medium, and small sized groups. Chris ensures his clients reside within their funding requirements and budgets, he manages their concerns, and addresses and meets their compliance needs.

Prior to joining EBS, Chris was a Medical Underwriter working with large New England-based organizations at Aetna in Hartford, CT. He underwrote using actuarial systems to conduct accurate evaluations. This was done to determine risk to scale rates, and to approve insurance coverage for numerous employers throughout New England.

Mr. Mace holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Finance from Central Connecticut State University. He is currently enrolled in the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) program. Mr. Mace was honorably discharged as a Sergeant enlisted in the United States Marine Corps from 2002 to 2006.


Stephen Belsanti

Mr. Belsanti brings to EBS a wealth of industry experience and a diverse perspective, with over 20 years in the employee benefits and financial services industry. Stephen began his career working in the mutual fund industry before he spent time as a financial advisor in an independent agency. Most recently, Stephen had the role of Vice President, Investment & Insurance Management with the Lowell Five Bank.

Stephen’s expertise and knowledge in the areas of health & welfare and ancillary plans is extensive. His strengths include value-based plan design and evaluating and implementing alternative plan options. Stephen’s role is to introduce to his clients progressive strategies and resources which may help address the rising costs of healthcare over both the short and long term. He assists with the management and compliance of their plans in relation to the Healthcare Reform Act, and integrates and manages a corporate wellness strategy that supports the company’s culture.

Stephen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from Curry College, his Life and Health Insurance License from the states of both Massachusetts and New Hampshire as well as his Series 6, 65 and 63 licenses.

When Stephen is not working he enjoys spending time with his wife, Tricia, and his two children, Joey and Jacob. He takes pleasure in golfing and playing basketball. Stephen stays actively involved in his community by volunteering in coaching youth sports.


Jasmit Anand

As a Benefit Consultant at EBS, Jasmit Anand advises clients on all aspects of health and welfare plans, which includes managing the renewal, marketing, organization and implementation processes for new benefit programs. Jasmit designs, educates, advises and implements benefit plans within large, medium, and small sized groups. Throughout every group partnership, her top priority is to ensure that their funding requirements, budgets, concerns, and compliance needs are addressed, met and exceed expectations.

Previously on the dental underwriting team for Aetna, she managed a book of business consisting of professional employer organizations, middle-market and national account customers. She was also responsible for managing dental strategic projects, focusing on actuarial collaborations and sales enablement strategies. Jasmit started her career at Aetna on the medical underwriting team where she evaluated claims experience to develop necessary rates for medical, new business prospects for various funding arrangements. She leveraged her extensive knowledge of Aetna’s Medical products and competitors to negotiate rates and offer solution-focused benefit recommendations. Prior to Aetna, Jasmit worked at Cigna on the dental underwriting team where she managed a book of business of middle-market customers and focused on attaining profitable growth, retention and earnings.

Jasmit earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Eastern CT State University and a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Hartford.


Brian Testa

Business Development Manager

As Business Development Manager at EBS, Brian opens channels and drives conversations to introduce EBS’ benefits model and advisory solutions to HR and People Strategy leaders. Brian not only drives new business but actively advises our clients on people operations strategies, talent management, data privacy, selecting and integrating enterprise HR technology solutions as well as how to develop policy, culture, compensation and immigration structures internally.

Prior to joining EBS, Brian spent twenty years in an executive HR and privacy leadership capacity, scaling organizations in Boston’s startup and emerging technology space. He spent almost half of this time as the Vice President of Global People Operations, Talent & Compliance with KBACE Technologies. Brian played a major role in the acquisition of KBACE to Cognizant in 2016. Following the acquisition, Brian started an independent consulting firm with a focus on infrastructure for start-ups in the greater Boston area.

Brian earned his bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management from Nichols College, and he is currently active with the school’s advisory board and athletic committees. He is also a licensed life, accident and health producer and is a member of IAPP and NEHRA.


Kevin Ryan

Senior Vice President

As Senior Vice President here at EBS, Kevin Ryan has taken on several roles. Kevin not only proactively develops new business, but he also acts as a team lead working collaboratively with the EBS team and clients to formulate creative strategies specific to their needs that align with their benefit philosophy. In this consulting role, Kevin meticulously designs, implements and monitors benefits strategies. His role includes dissecting financials on behalf of clients, coordinating communication strategies for employees as well as preparing high level analytics for Executive Team meetings.

Kevin has been in the industry for over twenty years- beginning his career with Tufts Health Plan, before moving on to Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. In 2000 Kevin joined the insurance brokerage firm, Longfellow Benefits, as a consultant and would later be named Principal within the firm. In December, 2013 Longfellow Benefits was acquired by Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. where Kevin was an Area Vice President until his move to EBS in August 2017.

Kevin holds his bachelor’s degree in English from Saint Anselm College.

Valeria Tivnan

Director of Population Health Strategy and Wellbeing

Valeria Tivnan continues EBS’ longstanding mission of providing cutting-edge wellness programs for our clients. In her role as Director of Population Health Strategy and Well-being, Val advises our clients on how to develop and execute tactics that may bring worksite wellness into their organization, transforming employees into more knowledgeable health care consumers. With over 20 years of experience in the health industry, her passions lie principally in wellness, disease prevention, and population health management. Not only has she managed several wellness programs, but she has designed and developed multiple new, successful wellness initiatives. She educates clients through her Lunch & Learns, assists on-site with external vendors, and provides her clients with enlightening employee communications.

Prior to joining EBS, Mrs. Tivnan worked for the carriers WellPoint in California as a Health Educator Coach, and BCBS RI in New England as a Team Leader to Health Management Consultants. Most recently, Valeria worked at a wellness solutions company, Preventure, as the Director of Client Outcomes where she was nominated for the top 100 Health Promotion Professionals. There she delivered results-driven wellness programs and CFO-proof return on investment reports, including for one of the largest hospital chains in the U.S. with over 65,000 eligible employees.

Ms. Tivnan has a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education (Exercise Physiology), a master's degree in Education from Boston University, and a master's degree in Public Health from UCLA. Valeria has provided certification courses for personal trainers through the American College of Sports Medicine, and was the official speaker for the American Diabetes Association in Rhode Island for four years. Additionally, Mrs. Tivnan has presented in many conferences including the American Journal of Health Promotion and the World Research Group. She is an active member of HERO (Health Enhancement Research Organization) where she has participated in several committees, including Health, Productivity and Performance, and Culture of Health and Engagement Committees. She won EBA’s prestigious ‘Wellness Director of the Year’ award in 2017.

Mrs. Tivnan resides in Mansfield, MA with her husband, son and daughter. They love taking part in community races, and traveling with their dogs up to Lake Champlain in Vermont.

Josie Martinez

Senior Partner and General Counsel

As Senior Partner and General Counsel at EBS, Mrs. Martinez specializes in advising our clients on both legal and compliance-related issues, including but not limited to ERISA, COBRA, and HIPAA. Her experience in navigating the legislative process and analysis of regulations are a valuable resource to our clients as the complexities of Health Care Reform continue to change. Having been an attorney for twenty-five years, Josie brings a breath of experience as an advisor on risk assessment, business strategy, contract negotiations, government investigations and regulatory compliance.

Prior to joining EBS, Josie was a Partner in the Business and Financial Services Litigation Group at McCarter & English, LLP. There she represented private and public companies in settlement negotiations, all stages of litigation, mediation proceedings and arbitrations in complex commercial disputes. She has also previously served as Deputy Legal Counsel to Governor Paul Cellucci and Executive Director of the Massachusetts Judicial Nominating Council. She administered all stages of the judicial nomination process. Prior to her tenure in Governor Cellucci’s office, Mrs. Martinez served as Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division of the Office of the Attorney General.

Prior to joining McCarter & English LLP, Mrs. Martinez also served as Deputy Legal Counsel to Governor Paul Cellucci, and Executive Director of the Massachusetts Judicial Nominating Council. She administered all stages of the judicial nomination process. Prior to her tenure in Governor Cellucci’s office, Mrs. Martinez served as Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division of the Office of the Attorney General.

Mrs. Martinez received her JD at Northeastern University School of Law and a bachelor's degree in English/Political Science from Boston College. She currently serves as the Chair of Governor Charlie Baker's Latino Advisory Commission where she co-leads initiatives that promote economic opportunities, prosperity and well-being within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She also serves on the Compliance Committee for United Benefit Advisors (UBA) and the Board of The Boston Home and ALPFA-Law (Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting).


Susan Sonkin

Compliance Specialist

As the Compliance Specialist at EBS, Mrs. Sonkin is responsible for staying abreast of state, and federal health care regulations. She is tasked with researching compliance issues for clients in areas including, but not limited to, HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA, Healthcare Reform annual reporting, and plan disclosure. She has a particular interest in Cafeteria Plan issues stemming from her experience in administration of medical and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts for EBS clients.

Prior to her role as Compliance Specialist, Mrs. Sonkin was an FSA plan administrator. In this role she interfaced with employers and employees, prepared communication materials and plan documents, conducted enrollments, performed non-discrimination tests, and adjudicated claims. She has also held positions in account management and human resource outsourcing at EBS. In those areas, she was responsible for servicing clients by coordinating the implementation of new benefit programs, researching and responding to client inquiries regarding benefit provisions, and communicating with plan carriers to resolve administrative and claim issues. Prior to working at EBS, she held positions at Educational Reading Service, and Medical Economics Company.

Susan is a licensed life, accident and health broker. She has obtained the designation of Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) from the Wharton School of Business. She is a Registered Health Underwriter (RHU®), a Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC®), a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®), and a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®).

Mrs. Sonkin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Pratt Institute. She is a member of the New England Employee Benefits Council (NEEBC) and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP).

As the Director of HR Technology at EBS, Lisa specializes in assisting our clients in the enhancement of their current technology, or - if appropriate - matching them with the best new technology solutions for their needs. Lisa provides support to our clients from the discovery phase through post-implementation where needed. Mrs. Johnson brings more than a decade of extensive experience to EBS in the areas of benefits, payroll, HRIS, and HR with a focus on staff management, sourcing and recruiting, onboarding, 401K administration, and implementation of HRIS systems.

Prior to joining EBS, Lisa was employed by two of the top HR technology firms in the country; the Kraft Group as one of the HRIS technology leads, and Gazelle as a Project Manager/HRIS technology lead. In these roles, Lisa supported brokers and their clients with all HR technology needs, including but not limited to: consultative strategy in vendor selection, implementation support, and leveraging their current technology platforms to meet their current needs where applicable. She has also been employed as the HRIS/Benefits/Payroll Manager at FAST Search and Transfer- a company later acquired by Microsoft. Mrs. Johnson’s vendor technology experience also includes: system analysis, administration, and client relations for companies such as Xerox and Workscape (now ADP).

Mrs. Johnson attended Northeastern University where she focused on Human Resources.

As a Benefits Analyst at EBS, Erik provides support to both partners and consultants by managing the day-to-day functions required for administering a case. Erik is responsible for gathering data, conducting analyses, identifying key trends with claims, and participating in key benefit projects and renewals. He proactively liaises and leverages external resources and internal partners/consultants to identify gaps and create efficient processes and programs related to benefits and renewals. He is also responsible for coordinating proposals with carriers for additional benefit options to create a Renewal Analysis, and for preparing annual benchmarking reports for our clients.

Erik joined EBS from Cigna Group Insurance where he was a group ancillary underwriter in the small group market and participated in the Underwriting Leadership Training and Risk Assessment program. His extensive knowledge of group life and disability contracts, his underwriting background and his consultative approach are all valuable assets to the EBS clients Erik works with.

Erik holds a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Finance from Miami University Framer School of Business.


Jeff Narkiewicz

As a Benefit Analyst at EBS, Mr. Narkiewicz is responsible for gathering data, conducting analyses, identifying key trends with claims, as well as participating in key benefit projects and renewals. He proactively liaises and leverages external resources (carriers) and internal partners/consultants to identify gaps and create efficient processes and programs related to benefits and renewals. He is also responsible for coordinating Proposals with carriers, for additional benefit options to create a Renewal Analysis, and for preparing annual benchmarking reports for our clients.

Prior to joining EBS, Jeff was employed with Mercer as a Client Service Analyst. In this position he administered the pension benefit plan for multiple clients and their vested participants, reconciled monthly funding reports and performed root cause analysis. Prior to his time at Mercer, Jeff worked as a compliance associate with Fidelity Investments.

Jeff holds a bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Bryant University.


Lisa Spellman

As a Benefit Analyst at EBS, Lisa is responsible for gathering data, conducting analyses, identifying key trends with claims, as well as participating in key benefit projects and renewals. She proactively liaises and leverages external resources and internal partners/consultants to identify gaps and create efficient processes and programs related to benefits and renewals. She is also responsible for coordinating proposals with carriers for additional benefit options to create a Renewal Analysis and for preparing annual benchmarking reports for our clients.

Lisa comes to EBS from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts with over 3 years of experience adjusting claims, working with benefits and overseeing performance guarantee accounts. She has extensive experience in customer service, analyzing claims against benefits, and correcting adjustments. She partnered with all other Blue Cross plans across the country, as well as other insurance carriers to direct claims adjustments. Prior to Blue Cross Blue Shield, Lisa spent 5 years as a pharmacy technician for Sam’s Club in Anchorage, Alaska, managing prescription fulfillment and billing for customers.

Lisa has two associates degrees from The University of Alaska, one in Liberal Arts & Science and another in Radiology Technology.

Chelsey’s responsibilities as a Benefit Analyst with EBS is to gather data, conduct analyses, identify key trends with claims, and participate in key benefit projects and renewals. She is also responsible for coordinating Proposals with carriers, for additional benefit options to create a Renewal Analysis, and for preparing annual benchmarking reports for our clients.

Chelsey Covitz comes to EBS from Sapers & Wallack in Newton, MA after three years as a Benefits Analyst with the Group department. She is experienced in the design, administration and servicing of client health and welfare programs. Chelsey also has a strong background in reporting, quoting, data management and claims analyzation. Her previous experience and industry knowledge will be extremely valuable to EBS clients.

Chelsey obtained her MA Resident Producer License in February 2017 and her Bachelor of Science degree from Saint Michael’s College where she majored in Accounting.

Vice President of Operations

As Vice President of Operations for EBS, Jim is relied upon by the entire EBS team to make sure they have the appropriate workload, training, and tools available to them so that they can continue to provide our clients with the best in class service. He monitors, researches, and implements new programs and systems to ensure that all employees stay up-to-date with the latest resources available in the marketplace, with the goal of positioning the EBS brand as a thought-leader in the industry. Jim manages vendor relationships while educating our team on new product offerings and valuable, solution-based enhancements.

Jim has over twenty years of experience in the group benefits industry. He has sold, designed, and underwritten group benefit policie. He began his career at Sun Life Financial, where he implemented group life, disability and dental policies. He then spent the next ten years at an ancillary sales rep, first at Assurant Employee Benefits, then The Standard, then returned to Sun Life Financial. From there he moved to Liazon, where he sold and implemented private exchanges for employer groups.

Jim graduated from Bentley University with a degree in Business Management and holds a Massachusetts Life & Accident License.


Steve Kelly

Director of Operations

As the Director of Operations at EBS, Steve brings over 15 years of experience in the insurance industry with roles ranging from senior account management to systems administration. Steve’s technology and benefit knowledge has enhanced the EBS structure by being the “go to” person dedicated to various agency systems and directing operations for EBS. By wearing many hats, Steve is capable of handling a full range of technical issues in addition to managing operations for the company.

In Steve’s prior insurance roles he was a systems administrator as well as a web designer for the award-winning benefits website platform “Benergy” powered by EBIX. Steve’s expertise in the technical aspect of launching and maintaining these systems was cutting-edge as Steve played an intricate part during client acquisitions & nationwide system conversions.

Steve is licensed by the Massachusetts Division of Insurance for life, accident and health insurance products and continues his educational advancement by obtaining applicable licensing and various designations.


Marah Funder

Operations Assistant

As the Operations Assistant at EBS, Ms. Funder provides direct support to each member of the EBS team. Marah manages many of the logistics for our marketing and social media initiatives and programs while simultaneously facilitating and executing operational efficiencies in order to make our business run smoothly.

Marah Funder joins EBS with six years of management experience, eight years of social media marketing experience and two years with operational management experience. She managed the Beacon Hill 2nd Time Around store for over 5 years where she spearheaded multiple hiring and training programs for up to 43 store locations. She then moved to a position as a social media manager for a local jewelry store before returning to her roots at 2nd Time Around with a dual position as both the office manager and customer service manager.

Marah obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Writing and Literature from Emmanuel College.
